Springvale Foods Environmental Policy

Our Commitment to Sustainability

Springvale Foods is committed to minimising our environmental impact and integrating sustainable practices across all aspects of our business. We actively work to reduce waste, lower carbon emissions, and promote responsible sourcing while ensuring compliance with ISO 14001 Environmental Management System (EMS) standards.

Compliance with ISO 14001 & Environmental Regulations

As part of our commitment to continuous environmental improvement, we align our policies with ISO 14001 standards by:

  • Identifying and managing environmental risks associated with our operations.
  • Setting measurable sustainability objectives and regularly reviewing performance.
  • Ensuring compliance with all relevant environmental laws, regulations, and industry best practices.

Waste Reduction & Resource Efficiency

We actively work to minimise waste and promote efficient use of resources by:

  • Reducing food waste through optimised inventory management and redistribution initiatives.
  • Minimising plastic usage by working with suppliers to introduce sustainable and recyclable packaging solutions.
  • Encouraging paperless processes and responsible consumption of office resources.
  • Implementing waste segregation and recycling across our operations.

Sustainable Sourcing & Ethical Supply Chain

We partner with ethically responsible suppliers and prioritise sustainable sourcing by:

  • Selecting suppliers who adhere to environmental best practices and certifications.
  • Promoting the use of eco-friendly materials and responsibly sourced ingredients.
  • Conducting supplier reviews to ensure compliance with sustainability commitments.

Energy Efficiency & Carbon Footprint Reduction

Springvale Foods is committed to reducing our carbon footprint and improving energy efficiency across our operations. As part of our Carbon Reduction Plan, we established a 2025 baseline for our operational greenhouse gas emissions.

Scope 1 emissions were approximately 22.24 tCO₂e and Scope 2 emissions were approximately 5.11 tCO₂e, giving a combined Scope 1 and 2 total of approximately 27.35 tCO₂e.

These figures provide a reference point against which future emissions reductions will be measured. Scope 3 emissions have not yet been quantified; however, we recognise their importance and will begin Scope 3 measurement in 2026, working with suppliers and partners to reduce emissions across our wider value chain.

Employee Engagement & Training

We believe in fostering an environmentally responsible culture by:

  • Providing ongoing training on environmental policies and sustainability practices.
  • Encouraging staff involvement in green initiatives and sustainability projects.
  • Promoting awareness of environmental responsibilities at all levels of the company.

Continuous Improvement, Targets & Monitoring

To ensure ongoing progress, we:

  • Regularly review and update our Environmental Management System (EMS) in line with ISO 14001 standards.
  • Conduct internal audits and set new targets for sustainability improvements.
  • Work with industry partners to adopt and promote best environmental practices.
  • Align our environmental performance with UK government targets on waste, energy, and carbon emissions, contributing to the national Net Zero 2050 goal.

Our Science-Based Targets

  • Reduce Scope 1 and 2 greenhouse gas emissions by 50% by 2030, from a 2024 baseline.
  • Achieve Net Zero Scope 1 and 2 emissions by 2045.
  • Transition to 100% renewable electricity by 2030.
  • Reduce overall site energy use by 20% by 2030.
  • Achieve zero waste to landfill by 2030.
  • Begin Scope 3 emissions measurement by 2026 and work with suppliers to reduce emissions across the value chain.

We are committed to monitoring progress annually, reporting results internally, and updating our approach based on evolving best practices and scientific recommendations.

At Springvale Foods, we recognise that sustainable business practices are essential for the future. By adhering to ISO 14001 principles, we are dedicated to reducing our environmental impact and driving positive change throughout our industry.
